WAM is for Families
Bring the entire family to a free Family ArtVenture to view the galleries on a special tour, make art together led by an art instructor, watch a family movie, or meet an artist or two or three.
Engage with your preschool child at WAM's weekly Art Start with interactive art and gallery explorations.
The Wichita Art Museum is the perfect place for family outings and special moments with kids, aunts and uncles plus grandparents. The museum has ongoing programs through the year. In addition, there are special family activities planned at the annual Summer Birthday Bash and Ice Cream Social, the Friends' Holiday Open House, and Winter Art Mania.
Upcoming Family ArtVentures
Saturday, September 28
11 am to 3 pm
In honor of WAM’s fall exhibition, Light & Shadow: Alyson Shotz and Kumi Yamashita, this fun-filled and active family program centers on making art from the shadows. Multiple artmaking activities, a special gallery-looking activity, as well as a screening of the Disney film Coco at 2 pm, will take place. Free Saturday admission thanks to the generosity of Colby Sandlian and Sandlian Realty
The Little Read
Saturday, October 26
11 and to 3 pm
To celebrate the Wichita Public Library’s annual Big Read, WAM celebrates literacy and the arts with special artmaking, games, and activities. Families are invited to attend this ArtVenture that brings the joy of reading and the arts together. The 2019 Big Read book is Lab Girl by Hope Jahren, a memoir about her journey as a woman scientist and musings about plants, the central focus of her successful scientific endeavors. Complimentary copies of a Big Read youth companion book, You Wouldn’t Want to Live Without Trees, will be given to families completing all ArtVenture activities (while very limited supplies last; one book per family). Visit the library’s website for full details at wichitalibrary.org/bigread.
